Dick
Vermeil retires at the age of 63, day after winning the Super Bowl XXXIV!
Vermeil said, "How many
coaches get to take over a world championship team? That's the best job in America."

Born October 30, 1936, in
Calistoga, Calif.
Quarterback at San Jose State from 1956-57, he transferred from Napa Junior College.
- Graduated
from San Jose State in 1958 with a bachelor of science degree in physical education
- In
1959 received a Master's degree in physical education from San Jose State
Vermeil and his wife,
Carol, reside in St. Charles, Mo. They have three children & ten grandchildren.
Collegiate & High School
Background:
Started head coaching in
1959 at Delmar High School in San Jose, California.
He became head coach at Hillsdale High School in San Mateo, California, later he moved to
College of San Mateo in 1963.
The next year he became head coach at Napa College.
Beginning in 1965, he started at Stanford coaching; he was there for four years.
Head Coach for the for UCLA
- In
1970 he became the offensive coordinator at UCLA
- In
1974 he was named head coach at UCLA
- Bruins
in 1975 unseated No. 1 Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. That year he was named Coach of
the Year on four levels: high school, junior college, Division I, and NFL

Only coach who guided his team to the Super Bowl
& Rose Bowl
First special teams coach
in NFL history in 1969 for the Los Angeles Rams.
From 1971-73, he was the Rams quarterback coach.
Head Coach for the
Philadelphia Eagles:
- In 1976 was named head
coach of the Philadelphia Eagles
- In 1978 sent the Eagles to
their first playoff appearance in eighteen seasons
- In 1980 drove the Eagles
to Super Bowl XV but was defeated by the Oakland Raiders
- He ended with the Eagles
organization in 1982
Recap:
Berthed the Eagles to four playoff appearances in seven seasons,
including one Super Bowl.
Head
Coach for the St. Louis Rams:
- In
1997 was named head coach of the St. Louis Rams on January 22, 1997 (twentieth head coach)
- In
1999 made the Rams win NFC Divisional West &
was named Coach of the Year
